Restaurant Information
Oakdene
With a vineyard and its own breeding herd of Black Angus cattle, Oakdene has something no restaurant in the city can offer. The rustic charm of the complex carries on into the dining room and the garden has a certain romantic allure. The modern Australian menu could compete with many more cosmopolitan restaurants however, once again, Oakdene offers something different in their quirky little guesthouse rooms. These may be very tempting after a long, satisfying meal!

The Oakdene experience
Arriving at the Oakdene restaurant, vineyard and bouteque hotel you are immediately struck by the quirky and artistic layout of the grounds. Pumpkins on the outdoor tables and garden tools used as signs around the gardens, the lay out of the grounds are just a foretaste of the eclectic and colourful arena in which you are about to dine. On entering the homestead you are surrounded by a feast of the visual senses paintings, ceramics, glass and ironworks are in each of the rooms downstairs. The cellar door/bar is a comfortable area and very cosy on a winter's day having an open fire. There is a main restaurant and a couple of function rooms; as well as an alfresco area. None of these areas are so large as to be impersonal. The staff were very attentive and made me feel as if I were their only customer, however I did not feel as if I were being suffocated with too much attention. The atmosphere created by the surroundings and the staff was relaxed and cosy. We ordered a glass of the vineyard's sauvignon blanc which was served promptly, chilled and was a very plesant fruity light wine. As a lover of full bodied red wine this was a change for me to enjoy a light wine with a delicate and light lunch. For the meal itself I ordered the locally fished crayfish in a homemade pasta ravioli, this was an entree which I had served as a main course, when it arrived it was on an attractive plate and presented with a delicate sauce not overly garnished. The crayfish was cooked well and moist the pasta was just right and the sauce complementary not overwelming, my only criticism would be that even for a light lunch when requesting an entree as a main meal that I would expect to be served with a main meal serving. I would expect to pay a little more however I did enjoy the food which I received. For dessert I ordered the pear and date pudding with a caramel sauce, this can I say was to die for, being warm comforting sweet and light like the puddings I remember as a child served from the oven of our aga in the kitchen of my childhood. The meal was enjoyable, the atmostphere friendly and relaxing and the dining experience one which I will return to again, especially after a walk around the gardens and a little rest next to the outdoor hearth with open fire.
