If Madame SouSou were a person (as the restaurant is treated by her dedicated staff) she would be tres chic, extremely flirtatious and very, very sexy. As you walk into this petite French bistro with its opulent decor and European feel, you could be mistaken for assuming she had occupied the same residence for centuries, warmly welcoming passers-by and inviting them in for coffee and a chat. Madame SouSou has her own product range including designer chocolates, a yatalanga olive oil from South Australia, as well as a range of teas and coffee.

Beautiful Duck
My colleagues and I had our Christmas break up lunch here yesterday and it was fantastic.
As soon as I saw the Duck Confit on the menu i didn't go any further as I am a duck lover and order it whenever it appears on a menu. I would have to say that this was one of the most impressive duck dishes I have every had; wonderfully cooked on a bed of braised cabbage with a lovely sour cherry sauce - divine. One of my colleagues had the minte steak with pomme frites and declared it wonderful.
We shared a tarte tartin for dessert and this was also very impressive.
Fabulous service capped off a very memorable meal. I will certainly be back.

At last good food in Australia!
Aussie cuisine generally needs much to be desired so this was really such a find for this visitor from America. I had walked up and down Brunswick street searching for a decent place to eat that wouldn't require ear protection. I knew this was the place when I saw it. The authentic French European facade and interior is warm and welcoming, inviting one to endless hours of eating, drinking and people watching through the huge windows that open onto the sidewalk where there is ample more seating. I first stopped in earlier for a late breakfast and liked it so much went back for dinner. I had the fillet mignon with some sort of wonderful fried potatoe roll, minted peas and lima beans 9(yum), and salade a tomate with buffalo mozarella, basil and balsamic vinagrette. Yes, I was in bliss. Topped off with lavender pannacotta and honeycomb and espresso, I was then ready to be carted off to heaven. Service was excellent and friendly. Oh and I'm sure the wine is fantastique but I don't drink alcohol so that is why it is not mentioned here. One of the best places to eat on Brunswick street. Go!

What a gem!
Went to Madame Sousou's with a friend for dinner... the food was TO DIE FOR! I had the eye fillet (which was cooked to perfection) and she had the duck with bitter chocolate sauce (she was a heart beat away from licking the plate). We also had a couple of sides to go with our meals which were all lovely. Then for dessert we both had the champagne trifle- it was beautiful. The service was great, staff were well informed and knew the menu well, all questions were answered with ease. Also staff were very happy and friendly which added to the great experience! It seemed to get fairly busy so it may be worth booking (we were lucky we did since there wasn't a seat spare). This place is such a little gem, beautiful restaurant, lovely staff and the most fantastic food - I will definately be back!

Yum & yum
Dropped in mainly because a) my son & I were hungry & b) had just been to a nearby art supplies shop in Greeves St. Serendipitous really. Waitress was wonderful (achingly alluring if not actually French). Had linguine with seafood - linguine was fresh & beautifully cooked. Seafood (salmon, prawns, fat mussels & white fish) was likewise fresh, fulsome & not drowned in the sauce... Conned son into trying the filet mignon. A revelation for a 20-year-old who likes steak. Steak was exactly as ordered (rare), sitting atop a circle of wilted spinach in jus, and was all that might have been expected. Son was so impressed he allowed aged parent a small piece. Also made a reasonable dent in a bowl of crisp kipfler potato wedges done in duck lard! He was content with water & I drank a glass of excellent pinot (recommended by waitress with oh so beautiful eyes). Atmosphere was great & suitably French (well, at least bits of France that I have experienced). Will look forward to returning.

Started off well
The evening started off so wonderfully with what was initially friendly service which included a very flexible attitude given the restaurant was apparently fully booked. They managed to find us a table outside. Unfortunately the evening deteriorated after the first course (which was excellent). We then had to wait for 45 minutes for our main course with no apology or explanation for the wait. Not impressed. And then to cap it off they forgot about the cutlery and serviettes - another 5 minutes later these essentials arrived! My partner's lamb was delicious and I guess was worth the wait however the fillet mignon was well done.

....and the service DID get better second time round!
Back again this time for a family lunch for my partner's birthday - six of us (including two children) and the food and wine was as amazing as it was the first time, but the wonderful thing about it was the service was fantastic! A totally different experience to the first - a lovely surprise! The children were even catered for with a breakfast menu (thanks to the great waiter who was not frightened by them)! Now I look forward to our next meal there - perhaps breakfast.

A Celebratory Dinner
My partner and I chose Madame Sousou to celebrate our anniversary. As we were in Paris for our last anniversary we wanted to keep the Fench theme alive a bit longer! Food at Madame Sousou was amazing. I had the organic pork belly w/ crackling, apple glaze and semolina dumplings. My scallops entree was not as amazing - but good nonetheless. My partner's fillet mignon was also amazing! The evening unfortunately was tarnished by the lack of friendly service. A real shame as the general atmosphere was lovely - a cold Melbourne night in a romantic Melbourne restaurant celebrating a wonderful relationship. Hopefully next time it will be better.
