Flathead Fish Cafe

Seafood doesn't get much fresher than at Flathead Fish Cafe - a big call for seafood-spoilt Tassie. With only a few tables, this fish cafe does as much takeaway business as dine-in, but with everything on the menu available to take away, no one ought to miss out.

The menu constantly changes depending on what the boats have delivered that day, but might include a scallop linguine, or (if you are really lucky) their much-celebrated east coast scallop and lemon pizza. Coeliacs can enjoy numerous gluten-free dishes, such as the crumbed trevally with chips, while vegetarians can be catered for upon request. You can also choose from fresh produce at the Flathead Fishmongers within the cafe, and continue the clean, salty flavours at home.

One of the best
We booked early for a pre-show dinner and everything was perfect. Not rushed, out in good time, even though I ordered octopus which we were helpfully advised would take a little longer. We even managed to fit in an additional course of Thai fish cakes which were light and tasty. Excellent wine suggestions from a good selection of reasonably priced Tassie and some interstate wines, all available by the glass. The octopus was superb, just al dente, (if I can use that pasta term for seafood). But...please don't stack the plates on the table! It was only one indiscretion and all other table clearings were fine.

Great food
Food was fantastic, the hottest meal (temperature) I've had at a restaurant ever, fish was cooked to perfection and the atmosphere improved as the venue filled up. On the service front, our booking was for 6 till 7.30 as they needed the table, yes I booked for 2 & 3 of us appeared but there was no need for the rudeness, which continued until we left. But I will be going there again, the foods just too good.

Fantastic Flathead!!
How wonderful to finally discover absolutely wonderful food, fantastic service and a great atmosphere! It seems too good to be true, especially at the low cost of the food and bubbly. Long Live The Flathead!!
