The Concordia Club has been bringing a slice of Deutschland to Sydney for more than 120 years. Revamped after a move from Stanmore in 2005, the club recently found a new home in an old croquet clubhouse on the banks of the Cooks River near Tempe Station.
The club is a group-friendly spot for a meal with plenty of social events on during the year, including a fortnight of Oktoberfest celebrations in October. Concordia's also the place to go if you're seeking to dine out on rustic German food in a convivial old-world atmosphere.
Vegetarians beware: this is definitely carnivore territory. Pig products are high on the favourites list, with such dishes as crispy roast pork knuckles; beer garden platters of sausages; and the chef's speciality of smoked pork loin (kassler) on regular rotation. The daily blackboard menu includes plenty of club standards alongside the German staples, so those with less adventurous tastes are well looked after. German brew fans will also be chuffed with the formidable list of wheat beers on tap at wallet-friendly prices.
